AI Search SEO — Documentation
Everything you need to install, set up, and get the most out of AI Search SEO.
Getting Started
Requirements
| Requirement | Version |
|---|---|
| WordPress | 6.5+ |
| PHP | 8.1+ |
| WooCommerce | 8.0+ (optional — only if you want to analyze product pages) |
Installing the plugin
- In WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
- Choose the
ai-search-seo.zipfile you downloaded after purchase and click Install Now. - Click Activate.
- The Setup Wizard launches automatically.
Setup Wizard
The wizard runs once, right after activation, and takes about 2 minutes:
- Choose your existing SEO plugin — Rank Math, Yoast, AIOSEO, or None. AI Search SEO adapts around it so you never get duplicate schema output.
- Select which post types to analyze — Posts, Pages, Products, or any custom post type on your site.
- Optionally connect an AI provider — OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, or Perplexity. This step is skippable; the plugin works fully without it (see AI-Enhanced Analysis).
- Optionally bulk-scan your existing content to generate initial AI Scores for everything already published.
You can revisit every one of these choices later under Settings.
The Dashboard
Find AI Search SEO in your WordPress admin sidebar. Four tabs:
| Tab | What's there |
|---|---|
| Dashboard | Site-wide average AI Score, your top 5 problem pages, quick actions, Background Scan, and the Agent Readiness scorecard |
| Content | Every post/page with its AI Score, FAQ/Schema/Summary status, and bulk scan tools |
| Schema | An overview of every schema block generated across your site |
| Settings | Post types, your primary SEO plugin, AI provider keys, PageSpeed API key, Experimental Role Fixes, and license management |
Recommended order of operations
If you're setting up on a site with existing content, run things in this order — it avoids confusion and duplicate work:
- Scan (Content page) — scores everything and generates FAQs/summaries/schema for existing posts. For larger sites, use Scan All Content rather than scanning pages one at a time.
- Background Scan (Dashboard) — runs in small batches behind the scenes via WP-Cron, without holding your browser tab open. This is also what powers the Accessibility Tree check below, so it needs to run before Agent Readiness results mean anything.
- Agent Readiness (Dashboard) — check this last; it reflects whatever Background Scan has found so far.
AI Score (0–100)
Every post and page gets a score built from five weighted signals:
| Signal | Weight |
|---|---|
| FAQ with JSON-LD markup | 25% |
| Content Readability | 20% |
| Detected Entities & Topics | 20% |
| Structured Schema (Article/HowTo/Product) | 20% |
| Smart Summary block | 15% |
● 75–100 — strong. ● 50–74 — room to improve. ● 0–49 — AI engines are likely skipping this page.
The score isn't just a number — every issue behind it links to the specific tool that fixes it (Generate FAQ, Generate Summary, etc.), so a low score always comes with a next step.
Content Analysis
Open any post or page in the editor and find the AI Search SEO meta box underneath. Click Analyze Content to get:
- A readability score
- Detected named entities — people, places, organizations, products mentioned in the content
- A context-gap check — does the page clearly answer who / what / why / when / how
- A structural check — heading hierarchy, paragraph length, use of lists
- A prioritized list of issues, each with a suggested fix
AI-Enhanced Analysis (optional)
By default, entity detection uses fast, free, built-in keyword matching — no AI provider required. If you connect a provider under Settings → AI Provider, you can switch on AI-Enhanced Analysis to have that provider extract entities and topics semantically instead, which is noticeably more accurate on real-world writing.
- Only runs when you click Analyze Content on a single post — never during bulk scans, so those stay fast and free.
- Results are cached for 24 hours per page.
- Pages analyzed this way show a small 🤖 AI badge next to the Entities score.
FAQ Generator
Click Generate FAQ on any post to automatically pull 3–7 question-and-answer pairs from the content. This:
- Adds a proper
FAQPagestructured data block to the page, so search engines and AI answer engines can quote it directly - Enriches that block with a summary and your page's top entities, giving AI models more context than the raw questions alone
Smart Summaries
Click Generate Summary to produce:
- A short, 2–3 sentence summary of the page
- 3–5 key takeaways as bullet points
- A clean, embeddings-ready text block, formatted for AI retrieval systems (RAG) to pull from directly
This summary also becomes the page's meta description if one isn't already set.
Schema Builder
The Schema tab shows every structured data block generated across your site. From there you can:
- View the raw JSON-LD behind any post's schema
- Manually generate an
Article,HowTo, orProductschema for a specific page - See at a glance which pages are missing schema entirely
Internal Linking Suggestions
The Links tab in the meta box suggests related posts on your own site, based on shared entities and topics — each suggestion comes with a relevance percentage, so you can quickly judge whether it's worth adding.
AI Crawler Feed (llms.txt)
AI Search SEO automatically publishes a clean, machine-readable index of your content at yoursite.com/llms.txt, following the emerging llms.txt standard. It lists your published posts and pages with their AI-generated summaries, so crawlers from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Gemini have a curated source to cite instead of parsing your raw HTML.
This is fully automatic:
- Referenced from your
robots.txtso crawlers can find it - Regenerates every 12 hours, or on demand from the Dashboard
- Updates itself whenever a post is saved
Agent Readiness
A second scorecard on the Dashboard, separate from your AI Score. This one mirrors Google Lighthouse's Agentic Browsing audit category — it measures how well AI browsing agents (like ChatGPT's Agent Mode, Claude, or Project Mariner) can actually navigate and interact with your site, not just read it.
| Check | What it looks at |
|---|---|
| Accessibility Tree | Links and buttons with no discernible text, images missing alt text, form fields with no label, and inconsistent ARIA roles — the same issues that leave an AI agent unable to tell what an element does |
| Layout Stability (CLS) | Cumulative Layout Shift, checked against Google's 0.1 "good" threshold via the PageSpeed Insights API. Works out of the box on Google's free shared quota — add your own free API key under Settings if you check often enough to hit that shared limit |
| llms.txt | Always on — see above |
| WebMCP | An emerging browser standard for letting a page expose structured actions an AI agent can call directly. Still in an early trial phase at the browser level; tracked here as a placeholder until it stabilizes |
Background Scan (Dashboard) is what powers the Accessibility Tree check — it works through every published page in small batches via WP-Cron, without needing your browser tab to stay open, and refreshes your AI Score at the same time. Worth using from a few dozen posts up; essential past 500.
Safe Fix
Most issues the Accessibility Tree check finds can be fixed in one click, directly from the issue list — nothing in your theme or content is ever touched:
- Apply Safe Fix — approves one specific attribute and value (for example,
aria-label="Cart"on an icon-only link) for that element. A small script applies it in the visitor's browser at page load. - Apply to all N pages — appears automatically when the same element shows up as an issue on multiple pages (a header icon, for instance). One click fixes it everywhere instead of page by page.
- Revert — removes an applied fix instantly and completely. Nothing is left behind.
- "N fixed" — a green counter next to your issue total, so you can see progress as you go.
Because Safe Fix never edits your theme or database content — it only applies attributes live, in the browser — reverting always returns you to exactly where you started.
Experimental Role Fixes
Off by default, and it stays that way unless you turn it on under Settings. This extends Safe Fix to also cover missing ARIA role attributes (for example, role="button" on a custom dropdown toggle).
This one is different from the rest: adding a role tells assistive technology what an element should do, but doesn't add matching keyboard behavior on its own. If you enable it:
- Try a real fix in your theme or page builder first — this is meant as a fallback, not a first option.
- After applying, immediately test the element with Tab to focus it, then Enter or Space to activate it.
- If it doesn't respond correctly, click Revert.
Turning the setting back off at any time immediately stops every previously-applied role fix from being served — nothing to clean up by hand.
Settings
| Setting | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Post types | Which content types get scanned and scored |
| Primary SEO plugin | Rank Math / Yoast / AIOSEO / None — avoids duplicate schema output |
| AI Provider | Connect OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, or Perplexity for AI-Enhanced Analysis |
| PageSpeed API key | Optional — only needed if you're checking Layout Stability often enough to hit Google's shared free quota |
| Experimental Role Fixes | Off by default — see above |
| License | Activate your purchase (see below) |
License Activation
Your license key arrives after checkout — on the order confirmation page and by email.
- Go to Settings → License.
- Enter your key and click Activate.
Activation confirms your purchase, ties your license to that site, and turns on automatic update notifications in wp-admin.
For Developers & Agencies: WP-CLI
If you manage multiple sites, the plugin ships with WP-CLI commands:
wp aiseo scan POST_ID # Scan/score a single post
wp aiseo scan --all # Scan every published post of the configured post types
wp aiseo scan --all --post_type=post # Limit --all to one post type
wp aiseo score POST_ID # Show a post's current score without rescanning
Tips & Troubleshooting
Background Scan seems slow.
That's expected — it deliberately works through your site in small batches so it never locks up your browser or overloads your server. On larger sites this can take a few minutes; you can navigate away and check back later, it keeps running via WP-Cron.
A few posts show as failed after a Background Scan.
The scanner automatically retries a post a couple of times if a scan attempt fails before giving up on it — if you still see a "failed" count when it finishes, just click Start again to retry only those.
I stopped a Background Scan and the button didn't seem to respond right away.
It has — Stop takes effect immediately on your end. If the status still briefly showed as running, that was just the last status check catching up, not a stuck scan.
My Agent Readiness numbers don't look right.
Run Background Scan first. Agent Readiness reads from whatever Background Scan has already found — if it hasn't run yet, or hasn't finished, the numbers will be incomplete.
I don't see a fix option for one of my issues.
Most issue types have a one-click Safe Fix. The one exception is ARIA role issues, which require turning on Experimental Role Fixes in Settings first — see that section above for why it's opt-in.
Uninstalling
Go to Plugins → Installed Plugins, deactivate AI Search SEO, then delete it. All plugin data — post meta, options, and cached scan results — is removed automatically. Nothing is left behind in your database.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Does this replace Rank Math or Yoast SEO?
- No. AI Search SEO complements traditional SEO plugins — it focuses on AI-engine optimization (structured context, FAQ schema, summaries) rather than keyword-based search SEO.
- Will it slow down my site?
- No. All processing happens in the WordPress admin. The only thing added to your front end is lightweight JSON-LD
<script>tags in<head>. - Is WooCommerce supported?
- Yes — enable the Product post type in Settings to analyze product pages and generate Product schema.
- Is it compatible with Multisite?
- Yes. Settings and scan data are managed per-site.
- Where is my data stored?
- Entirely in your own WordPress database, as post meta. Nothing is sent to an external server unless you choose to connect an AI provider for AI-Enhanced Analysis.
